MKSAP and Board Pearls: our approach to IM boards

MKSAP, the ACP's Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program, is the standard reference for the ABIM internal medicine boards. Board Pearls is not a live internal medicine product yet, so here is an honest picture: what MKSAP is, and how Board Pearls approaches board review, with gastroenterology live today and internal medicine in authoring.

What MKSAP is

MKSAP is produced by the American College of Physicians, which also shapes the exam blueprint, and is used by the large majority of internal medicine residents. It is a comprehensive text plus question bank covering the ABIM internal medicine content categories. For breadth and blueprint alignment it is the default.

How Board Pearls is built

  • Chapters written from primary society guidelines and pivotal trials, organized around clinical decisions.
  • ABIM five-option vignettes with condition-level wrong-answer explanations.
  • Attending-narrated audio and a chapter-grounded AI tutor included.

What is live now

You can judge the method today: gastroenterology is fully live. Internal medicine is in authoring and will follow the same approach. Read the free GI chapter to see it, and join the list to hear when internal medicine launches.
